Palm Heel

The palm heel is an easy yet powerful self-defense move. To execute it, bend your fingers down and your wrist back while keeping your thumb pressed against your fingers. Aim for key areas like the chin, nose, and solar plexus for maximum impact.

Low Kick

There are various kinds of low kicks, each serving a unique purpose in self-defense based on the circumstances. A toe kick to the shin can be quite excruciating, just like a kick to the groin. You can also modify your approach to handle threats from behind using a heel kick. For instance, if someone has you in a bear hug, you can strike the back of their shins with your heel or stomp down on their foot.

Elbow

The elbow is definitely one of my top choices for self-defense strikes. It allows for a powerful impact while keeping the risk of injury to myself quite low. For instance, if I aim for my opponent’s face and miss, I could accidentally hit them on the side of the head. With an elbow strike, that’s not a big deal, but using a fist could lead to me getting hurt. Aiming my elbow at their jaw gives me a solid chance of knocking them out.

Conclusion

Here are my top three favorite self-defense strikes. You might be curious why I didn’t include punching… The reason is that our knuckles are pretty fragile, and hitting a tough spot like the forehead can lead to injuries. Plus, if you’re not familiar with forming a proper fist, you risk hurting your wrist, which is definitely not ideal in a confrontation.
